The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts is looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of philosophical and moral psychology.
You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the philosophy of action. Both contemporary debates in philosophical psychology and in ethics are relevant. Both scientific knowledge as well as philosophical analyses of concepts such as freedom, control, intention and responsibility form the basis for an original answer to the question: which account of moral action is preferable given the current state of the (cognitive) sciences? You will investigate if and how this account allows to reconcile the (claim to) generality of moral action with its historical and contextual situatedness.
You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Department of Philosophy, such as assisting in an introductory course “Logic” or “Contemporary Analytic Philosophy”.
You hold a Master degree in Philosophy (or equivalent) or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
You can demonstrate excellent study results.
Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
You are motivated, dynamic and able to take (organizational) initiatives and to follow up on these autonomously.
What we offer
We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
The planned start date is 1 November 2021 or as soon as possible after that date.
Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
You will do most of your work at the city campus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
